Established under Iowa Code Section 216A.12
• Consists of seven members,from around the State of Iowa
with consideration given to geographic residence and density of
the Latino population represented.
•
It is bipartisan and gender-balanced as required by Iowa Code Sections
69.16 and 69.16A.
• Commission members are appointed by the Governor and subject
to confirmation by the senate pursuant to section 2.32.
• Commission members serve for staggered four-year terms which
shall begin and end pursuant to section 69.19.
• Commission Members shall meet at least quarterly each fiscal
year and all meetings are announced publicly and are open to the
public.
• The Director of the Department of Human Rights serves as
an ex-officio member of the Commission.
• The Commission duties are:
1. Study the opportunities for and changing needs of the Latino
population of this state.
2. Serve as a liaison between the department of human rights and the
public, sharing information and gathering constituency input.
3.Recommend to the board the adoption of rules pursuant to chapter
17A as it deems necessary.
4. Recommend legislative and executive action to the governor and
general assembly.
5. Establish advisory committees, work groups, or other coalitions
as appropriate. |
