SIGN of the TIMES E-NEWS July 2010 IOWA DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICE OF DEAF SERVICES ANNOUNCEMENT HELLO FROM BARB JONES! Well, I have finally unpacked all my boxes and am feeling settled! Whew! I never realized how much stuff and junk a person collects! Even though I am in South Dakota with my family, I still feel like I am in Iowa with my other family (all of you). I really had a hard time deciding to retire because I loved my job so much and I knew it would be hard to leave all of you. I'm so blessed to have been able to work for an agency such as DSCI. The opportunities given to me by Kathryn were so fulfilling and made my tenure there a complete joy. Many thanks to the staff, commissioners, IAD, FDCD, Mascia club, professionals, and all interpreters who celebrated my retirement parties! Your comments and gifts were deeply appreciated! You will all be missed! ~ Barb Jones ANNOUNCEMENT REORGANIZATION CHANGES UPDATE The Office of Deaf Services formerly the Division of Deaf Services Commission of Iowa is a proud part- ner in the strategic reorganization of the Iowa Department of Human Rights (DHR). Reorganized in spring 2010, DHR’s new mission is to ensure basic rights, freedoms, and opportunities for all by empowering underrepresented Iowans and eliminating economic, social, and cultural barriers. In order to more effectively and efficiently serve our customers, the Office of Deaf Services has combined its administrative functions with the other population-specific Offices within our newly created Division of Community Advocacy and Services (CAS) at DHR. Kathryn Baumann-Reese is the new administrator for CAS. Iowans should expect to receive the same or a better level of culturally responsive services from the Office under our new structure.
