Email us: dhr.dsci@iowa.gov ANNOUNCEMENT DEAF EDUCATION DAY March 7, 2011 Kudos to deaf and hard of hearing students from Des Moines Public Schools and the Iowa School for the Deaf for their hard work! They did a great job planning for Deaf Education Day. It was a success! It was very exciting to see the students meet with legislators and interact with each other. They were hearing, D/deaf and hard of hearing students from all over Iowa and attend the School for the Deaf, mainstream, and home-schooled co-op programs. The students performed skits that were short clips of life as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing student and focused mostly on educational experiences. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children’s Bill of Rights is still alive. More photos and a summary of Deaf Education Day are available on the Deaf Services website: www.deafservices.iowa.gov/ whats-up/index.html. 911 Emergency Services for Individuals with Disabilities Survey Released Link to the survey in English and ASL: http://fcc.eaac.sgizmo.com/s3 “On March 16, 2011, the FCC's Emergency Access Advisory Committee (EAAC) released a national on-line survey to determine the most effective and efficient technologies and methods by which persons with disabilities may access Next Generation 9-1-1 emergency services systems. Among other things, the survey asks about accessing emergency services via video, text, and voice. The results of the survey will inform the EAAC as it devel- ops recommendations for the FCC to draft rules to ensure that people with disabilities can access NG 9-1-1 services. The survey is available in English, Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL) video. This survey will be available until April 24, 2011. We encourage people with disabilities to complete this survey, and share information about the survey with other people with disabilities and organizations that represent persons with disabilities.” Link to the survey in Spanish: http://fcc.eaac-es.sgizmo.com/s3 News Release regarding EAAC Survey: http://www.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2011/db0316/DOC-305233A1.doc http://www.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2011/db0316/DOC-305233A1.pdf http://www.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/ Daily_Business/2011/db0316/DOC-305233A1.txt The deadline for submission for the May issue is April 30th.
