INT-CEU 23.0 ASL
Grammatical Aspects: Comparative
Translations
Cassell &
McCaffrey, 1995, Sign Enhancers, Inc.
This course is designed to “help resolve issues
around the difference between ASL, English and Pidgin Sign English (PSE), also
referred to as “Contact Signing.” Since
PSE is not a language, but a combination of elements from both ASL and
English, there has been much confusion around how to define it. This course, with the companion instructional
media assists learners in seeing a comparison followed by demonstrations of how
these ASL grammatical aspects can be incorporated within PSE to maximize the
clarity of such communications. A unique
visual comparison is provided in the context of manageable sentences in order
to assist learners to better respond to the preferences of consumers requesting
the use of PSE as applied to transliteration services.”

INT-CEU 23.5 An Eye for
Details: Taking Control of Fingerspelling in Interpreted Discourse
CD-ROMs: Navigating
Discourse Genres and To the Heart of the Matter
Ross,
2004, Hallenross and Associates, LLC,
“As interpreters we often find fingerspelling, both
receptive and expressive, to be a challenge.
The reasons for this are varied and sometimes quite personal…it is
apparent that fingerspelling is a challenge in large part because we don’t
thoroughly understand its purposes and realities of production. This module is designed to make the purpose
and realities of production clear and to explore their application to the
interpreting process. The module is
designed to be used by interpreters at various levels of development. Accordingly, activities have been categorized
as novice, intermediate and advanced based on level of difficulty. It is not necessary to complete all three
levels to earn CEUs. In fact, it is entirely
possible to complete the module at one level and return to it later for
additional CEUs at another level.”

Study under the RID CMP/ACET programs.
