The State of Iowa receives approximately $600,000
each year in federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
Act formula grant funds. In addition to the Juvenile Justice Youth
Development Allocation, this funding stream also supports statewide
efforts addressing Aftercare, Gender Specific Community Initiative,
Disproportionate Minority Confinement (DMC) Diversion, and Mental
Health issues in detention shelter. Below is a listing and brief
abstract of programs that are currently funded.
Formula funds provide services which assist local communities to
comply with the four requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency
Prevention Act - deinstitutionalization of status offenders, sight
and sound separation, jail removal and disproportionate minority
contact (DMC).
